Weddings, Glorious Weddings

I never get tired of looking into the faces of my Brides and Grooms in the midst of your wedding ceremony. Your faces shine with love, anticipation, and true joy. You just have no idea how happy you make me by allowing me the privilege of performing your ceremony.

It touches me in a way that renews my love and devotion to my own dear husband of 44 years, my sweetheart, Clinton. I don't know if you are aware, but he drives me to almost all my weddings and sits patiently in the car for me. He is the best husband a woman could ever hope to have, and I thank God for him.

I hope and pray that in 44 years each one of you newlyweds can say, "I love him or her more today than I did on my wedding day". That is my prayer for each of you each day...

Fondly, Susan

BACK IN TOWN AND BACK ON TRACK

Our wonderful trip ended too quickly, only 5 weeks? I had Brides and Grooms waiting for me to return, so here I am and I have been hopping busy performing weddings, helping with rehearsals, meeting prospective brides and grooms, working on custom ceremonies!! It is good to be back, I do so enjoy working with all my couples to help make their wedding day a truly special event.

Congratulations to all my 10-10-10 Brides and Grooms! You have a unique anniversary to remember. I have already been booked a wedding for next year for 9-10-11 at 12! Now that is something to remember as well!! Poor grooms, you are without excuse if you forget your anniversaries!!

It is turning cooler outside and many weddings are starting to move indoors and I notice the color palettes being selected are more tuned to autumn and the beautiful burnt umber hues of this time of year.

Thank you all the Brides and Grooms who have allowed me to perform your wedding ceremony......now STAY MARRIED!!! All marriages have issues to deal with and every man and woman at one time or another doubts their love or commitment to their mate. Just stand fast, remember why you married....what did I see in her/him ? and find the love again.....you can make this work...

I will be praying for each of you.

God bless,

Susan

Backyard Weddings

Yesterday I had the privilege of officiating at two very different backyard weddings. The first lovely ceremony was a very intimate affair with just the closest family members attending and included the couple's 3 teenage children. It is so awesome to find love again and create a new home where everyone cooperates to make the home happy and peaceful. I congratulate you again, Alicia and Matthew. Thank you again to Karen and Rick, parents of the groom, for wrapping their arms around Clinton and I and making us feel like family at the luncheon after the wedding.

The second lovely ceremony was a larger affair with a beautiful setting overlooking the waters of one of the tributaries of the James River in the backyard of the Groom's parents home close to Smithfield. The beautiful Bride, Heather and her Groom, Tim were so obviously in love, it was a real pleasure to officiate their wedding. I thank all the parents for their gracious hospitality and all the 'girls' at our girlie girl table. :) It is such a blessing to be a wedding officiate. I meet such wonderful people, it is difficult to say goodbye, I just wish we could remain friends for a lifetime.

I thank God for giving me His Spirit and clarity of words and thoughts as I officiated at these weddings. The passion for marriage comes from His Spirit which lives in me and gives my words power and meaning. I pray that every couple I have officiated for will stay in love and married for a lifetime.

Blessings and love everyone!

Susan

Brides and Grooms,

Please join with Clinton and I as we celebrate our 44th wedding anniversary on July 23, 2010. We are so thankful we 'stuck it out' through some rough times together and now have the privilege of our 'senior years' together, Lord willing!

I pray for all of you that your marriages will be long and happy ones. That God will not keep you from the difficulties and trials that may come, because coming through them together is what strengthens your resolve and your commitment to one another. I do pray He will see you through the difficult times and give you all a love for each other that never fades or ends, but only grows stronger and more intense.

Love you all,

Susan

WOW! What fun! A 4th of July wedding aboard the Spirit of Norfolk Harbor Cruise ship with all the trimmings! The wedding was on the top deck outside and was beautiful! After the wedding, downstairs to the reception buffet dinner, dancing, relaxing in the wonderful cool air conditioning! And then......sitting outside enjoying the cool evening breezes as we cruised the harbor and viewed the fireworks from the best vantage spot....on the water.

We had such a wonderful time and I thank the Bride and Groom for allowing us to have the privilege of joining in on this most special occasion!

Hi Brides and Grooms,

A sorrowful day in the life of an Officiant.;....one of my scheduled weddings ended up with a Bride's broken heart.........the groom called it off. I don't know what happened, cold feet, an argument, the stress of life, another woman?

I am praying for both of them that God will be foremost in any plans they make in the future.

On a happy note, I had 3 beautiful and happy weddings this weekend..........thank You, Lord.

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED TO ME ON MY WAY TO THE FRONT DOOR

Hi everyone!
This officiating weddings just gets more and more curious as the weddings go by! And heaven knows this horrible weather hasn't been helpful, either!
I parked my car in one of the two driveways to the house where I was performing a wedding last week. The first driveway was packed with cars, so not wanting to get blocked in or blocking someone else in, I parked at the second driveway.
We still had a fine mist of snow coming down, and it was pretty cold outside too. I started across the front yard to the door and noticed the ground feeling a little wet and spongy under my feet. Before I could even react, my high heel was 'sucked' off my foot by mud and I had taken another step into mud which went over my stocking clad foot! I turned around and retrieved my shoe but looking at my foot, decided I was NOT putting it back in the shoe and ruin the inside as well as the outside. So I slogged to the door, semi-barefooted and begged mercy before I entered and ruined their floors. They helped me clean up and being the trooper I am, the show must go on!
All is well that ends well. I keep explaining to my potential and past brides and grooms how I am 'very flexible".......we had the service outside on the deck.........in the cold, but under a canopy. There was an outdoor fireplace lit, but I think all the heat went up and out. The Bride and I didn't feel any heat at all!
And I think I probably smelled like a forest fire for my next wedding.....they were very gracious and didn't comment.....
Just another exciting day in the life of an Officiant!
